The Psychological First Aid for Schools (PFA-S) is a comprehensive professional development course designed to equip educators, guidance counselors, school administrators, psychologists, social workers, school nurses, and other education professionals with the knowledge, skills, and competencies needed to provide immediate psychosocial support to learners, school personnel, and families affected by crises, emergencies, disasters, violence, and traumatic events.
Grounded in internationally recognized Psychological First Aid (PFA) principles and adapted specifically for educational settings, this course emphasizes evidence-informed approaches to reducing immediate psychological distress, promoting safety and emotional stabilization, strengthening resilience, and facilitating recovery within school communities. It also integrates Philippine school policies, disaster risk reduction and management (DRRM), child protection, mental health promotion, and referral systems.
Throughout the 80-hour program, participants will engage in lectures, demonstrations, simulations, case analyses, role-playing activities, reflective exercises, and a capstone project culminating in the development of a School Psychological First Aid Response Plan.
The course aligns with internationally recognized Psychological First Aid frameworks developed for schools, which focus on reducing distress, promoting adaptive coping, and implementing eight core actions following school crises.
